  • Katherine Beaupre, of Kensington, and Keri Ives, of Farmington, react to the cold water of the fountain at Miss Porter's School at the end of graduation exercises for the class of 2008.  The seniors traditionally jump into the fountain to close out the ceremonies, rain or shine.

  • John Parenti, of West Hartford, looks for Norman Westwood Jr.'s name on The Moving Wall, a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial, on the lawn in front of West Hartford Town Hall in June, 2010.  Parenti, a Vietnam-era veteran, was volunteering at the wall for a couple of hours Friday morning to help visitors find names.  He is wearing a T-shirt with the names of the eighteen young men from West Hartford who died in Vietnam printed on the back.  Westwood, a 1962 graduate of Conard High School and a Navy pilot, was killed at age 25 in May 1970 when his F-4 Phantom fighter failed in its takeoff from the USS Coral Sea for a bombing mission over North Vietnam.  His plane sank in the South China Sea.

  • Fireworks light up the sky over the Connecticut River and the crowd at Harbor Park during Middletown's annual Fourth by the River Festival. The display, which lasted about 30 minutes, was launched from a barge in the river.

  • Clowns Robo and Tails kiss after being pronounced man and wife at their wedding ceremony at the Leonard Youth Center in Cheshire in October, 2005. Robo (Jack Court) and Tails (Sally Alves) met a few years ago at a clown convention. Guests included about 50 clowns, friends and family. B.B. the Clown officiated.

  • Early bird shoppers forage for bargains at the Best Buy store at Corbin's Corner just after the doors opened at 5:00 a.m. on Black Friday in 2006. Among the hot sellers were deeply discounted flat-screen high definition TVs and laptop computers, some reduced by 40-50%.  The early bird prices were good from 5:00 a.m. until noon.  An estimated 3,000 shoppers were lined up on three sides of the building, according to West Hartford police at the scene, when the doors opened.

  • Capt. Greg Dubrule (right) cautions members of the Connecticut National Guard's Recruiting and Retention Battalion as they lift a fiberglass replica of a 17-foot great white shark onto a platform at the 49th annual Hartford Boat Show at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford in 2018. Dubrule was setting up a display for his business, Blackhawk Sport Fishing out of Niantic, the day before the boat show opened. He caught the shark off of Block Island in 1983 and his daughter named him Walter. He brings Walter to events across the country.

  • John Lynch, of Kensington, a member of the Hardware City Detachment of the Marine Corps League, salutes as Taps is played during a Memorial Day service at New Britain's Civil War, WWII, Vietnam, and Korean war memorials at Central Park in 2015. Lynch was the emcee for the event and was the Grand Marshal in the city's Memorial Day Parade that evening.

Waiting in the wings for his turn is Paul Virdokian, 5, of Manchester, and Michael Aram DeCorleto, of Marlborough, holding his god son, Rory Tracey, 15 months. Only men and boys are able to have their feet washed in the ceremony in keeping with the traditional story of Jesus washing his disciple's feet at the Last Supper.

Maria and her younger brother Daniel suffer from Batten disease, a rare, fatal, inherited disorder of the nervous system also known as neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses, that slowly stips victims of their mobility. Anabel and Felix believe that Maria and Daniel are angels sent to them to bring people closer to God. When people meet the Pagans or hear their story they are often moved to prayer.

Buxton's best friend's daughter, Maggie Rice, was graduating, but Buxton also wanted to hear President Trump who would deliver the commencement address. "I support him 100 percent," she said.
