Temperatures were still in the low 90s at graduation time in the early evening.

  • a herdsman at Sankow's Beaver Brook Farm, bottle feeds a lamb while another looks longingly at the bottle.  Since mid-February, about 300 lambs have been born at the farm. About 50-60 more will be born in mid-April as the spring lambing season winds down.  The farm is the largest sheep farm in the state, and the only sheep dairy in Connecticut. The 175-acre farm has been in the Sankow family since 1917.

  • Sharice Cannon makes her way to her home on North Street in Hamden after walking three blocks to a convenience store on Dixwell Avenue to pick up some essentials after a weekend blizzard dumped 40 inches of snow on the town, the highest amount in the state. Since her street - like many other side streets in Hamden - was still unplowed after two days, she and her neighbors were homebound.  "I've been in since the storm, but I wanted to get out today and see how bad it is," she said, "and it's bad!"

  • A family hangs on to a railing as they are buffeted by powerful wind gusts while watching the churning waves kicked up from Hurricane Sandy at Knollwood Beach in Old Saybrook. The powerful late-season hurricane knocked out power to much of the state for several days.

  • Travelers Insurance and other downtown businesses released workers at noon so they could get home safely ahead of forecasted snow. Unfortunately, the snow arrived ahead of schedule and came down heavily throughout the midday, snarling traffic and delaying busses. Leaning to see if a bus is coming at far left is Jason Masters, of Bristol, a Travelers empoyee, who had been waiting for a bus for 1 1/2 hours.  "I've never been so cold in all my life," he commented, "I feel like Frosty the corporate snowman!"

  • A great blue heron snatches a fish out of the water at Harbor Hill Marina in Niantic recently. A boat owner at the marina said the large bird had been hanging around on the dock for a couple of weeks, not bothered much by people, but drawn by the abundance of fish. "He never misses," he said.

  • Bob Pompano, of Branford, a mail carrier for the Durham post office, stretches to deliver mail during winter storm Grayson in January, 2017.  Mail carriers are considered "essential workers" and have to attempt to make deliveries as best they can during snow storms, according to Pompano. "Our trucks have rear-wheel drive and I don't want to get too close to the mail boxes so I don't get stuck," he said.

  • Laura Ramirez, of West Hartford, has a laugh with Luke Aubin, 7, as Luke's little brother, Matteo, 4, feels the rain, on their way home from Whiting Lane School.  Ramirez, who babysits the boys twice a week, picks them up after school and walks them home a few blocks in all kinds of weather.  Luke said he likes the rain.  "It's like diving into the water," he said.  "Or, it's like the opposite because the rain is diving into us!" he concluded.
